Why a documented Customer Privacy Notice matters
A privacy notice is the statement you give people about what you do with their personal data. Under the GDPR it must include who you are, why you use their data and on what legal basis, who receives it, how long you keep it and what rights they have. Article 12(1) says to give this information "in a concise, transparent, intelligible and easily accessible form, using clear and plain language." Article 13 covers data you collect from the person; Article 14 covers data you get from someone else. A notice informs the people whose data you hold; a data protection policy sets the rules your staff follow. In the US, the regulations under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) use "privacy policy" for the statement a business makes available to consumers. Every business the CCPA covers must provide one (11 CCR §§ 7001(gg), 7010(a)). This template is written for GDPR Articles 13 and 14, not for the CCPA's privacy policy rules, which have their own list of required contents (11 CCR § 7011(e)).
The EU GDPR's accountability principle (Article 5(2)) requires you to demonstrate compliance, and documented policies and records are how supervisory authorities and customers expect to see it.

Customer Privacy Notice template — FAQ
- What format is the Customer Privacy Notice template?
- It is a fully editable Microsoft Word (.docx) file. It also opens cleanly in Google Docs and LibreOffice, so you can work in whatever your team already uses.
- Do I have to write the Customer Privacy Notice from scratch?
- No. It is pre-written and professionally structured — replace the amber [bracketed placeholders] with your organization's details and confirm it reflects how you actually operate.
- Does buying the Customer Privacy Notice template make my organization compliant or certified?
- No single document does that. GDPR compliance depends on how you actually process personal data, not on documents alone. The template gives you the documentation itself, so the remaining work is operating the controls it describes.
